Canine Influenza Vaccines
Our highest priority is your pet's health and safety, which is why Ehrlich Animal Hospital will now carry canine influenza vaccines. Canine Influenza is like the human "flu" which can lead to pneumonia and is highly contagious. Dogs can spread the virus for four to five days before showing any signs of the disease, and will continue to spread the virus to other dogs after they are infected. Dogs at higher risk for the infection are pets that board at kennels or doggie daycare; come from a shelter, pet store or rescue; attend training facilities; visit groomers, dog parks, or dog events. Like the human virus, the virus spreads through direct contact (kissing, licking); through the air (coughing, sneezing); and contaminated surfaces (when a person picks up the virus by contaminated surfaces or clothing and then touches a dog).
We are now requiring that all pets will need the vaccine for boarding and grooming at our hospital. The first year, pets will receive two doses of the vaccine at two weeks apart. After that, the vaccine will be given once a year. We strongly suggest all pets should receive both doses prior to boarding and grooming, if possible. Please call our office if you have any questions regarding Canine Influenza or visit www.doginfluenza.com for more information about the disease.
At Ehrlich Animal Hospital, we always endeavor to bring the latest in technological advances to our clientele! Now you can access your pet's information online through your own Pet Portal! Simply click onto the Pet Portal Log In logo below.
