CANINE PERIODONTAL DISEASE

Stage 1: Gingivitis

  • Plaque and/or calculus on teeth
  • Red and swollen gums with no tooth attachment loss
  • Cleaning at this stage will save teeth
  • REVERSIBLE CONDITION

 

 

 

 

Stage 2: Early Periodontal Disease

  • Plaque and/or calculus on teeth
  • Red and swollen gums
  • Bad breath
  • Loss of tooth attachment up to 25%
  • POTENTIALLY REVERSIBLE

 

 

 

Stage3: Moderate Periodontal Disease

  • Plaque and calculus on teeth
  • Bleeding gums, sore mouth and bad breath
  • Loss of tooth attachment between 25% and 50%
  • PERMANENT DAMAGE WILL REQUIRE EXTRACTIONS

 

 

 

 

Stage4: Severe Periodontal Disease

  • Significant calculus on teeth
  • Severe gingivitis with bleeding gums, pus and bad breath
  • Loss of tooth attachment greater than 50% causing loose teeth
  • PERMANENT DAMAGE WILL REQUIRE EXTRACTIONS
